School Attendance

Studies show that there is a direct correlation between good school attendance and scholar achievement; therefore, we encourage you, as parents, to reinforce the importance of good school attendance and to make every effort to send your scholar to school on a regular basis and on time.

Arrival/Dismissal Times:
On regular school days, scholars must not arrive any earlier than 7:40 AM (7:20 AM only if eating breakfast at school). There is no supervision before that time. Students are dismissed at 2:30 PM on regular days, 12:10 PM on Flex Wednesdays and 11:20 AM on Minimum days.  Parents/guardians are highly encouraged to have transportation arranged for scholars on a daily basis as scholars are to exit the campus immediately after school. There is no supervision 15 minutes following dismissal. We discourage unsupervised children returning to school after hours.

Late Arrival:
On time means scholars are in class/with their teacher at their scheduled grade level start time (8:00 AM for 1st-5th grades daily; see schedules for TK and Kinder)  If your scholar is late he/she is required to get a Tardy Slip from the office before going to class. Any student who is tardy in excess of 30 minutes per day, for three (3) days in one school year, is truant and may be reported to the Attendance Supervisor and/or the School Attendance Review Board (SARB).

Absence:
Absence from school breaks the continuity of learning. According to state law, your scholar's daily attendance is required each day that he/she is physically able. Parents or guardians are responsible for their scholar's attendance at school. The only valid reasons for absence from school (Education Code, Section 46010) are:
  • An illness or injury to the child.
  • A quarantine of the home by a county or city health official.
  • A medical, dental, optometric, or chiropractic appointment for the child.
  • Attendance at funeral services for a member of the immediate family.
Other absences are considered unexcused and not only cause a disruption to your scholar's educational program, but are costly to the district.

Notification of absences: The school is required by the state to have an official explanation for all absences. Please send a note with your scholar on the day of his/her return giving the specific reason for the absence. If your scholar is to be away from school for an extended period of time, please call the school in advance. The phone number is (951)571-4550.

Teachers request a 24-hour notice if make-up and homework is desired for your child.

Scholars may be recommended for retention in grade anytime they are absent more than 10% of the school days in any one semester. Excessive absences will be reported to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB) and legal action may result.

Early Dismissal:
Any parent planning to take their scholar out of school during school hours must come to the office and show proper identification to sign them out of school. Parents requesting to take their child out must have their name on the emergency card. The clerk will call your scholar's room and have him/her sent to the office to meet you. A visitor’s pass must be obtained for any parent wishing to go on campus for any reason, but parents will have to wait in the office when picking up scholars. Please do not call the office in advance and ask for your scholar to be released from class to wait in the office until you arrive to sign them out.
